1960's Teisco Del Rey EP-8T Hollow Body

This is a late 1960's Teisco thinline Hollowbody guitar in the Gibson ES style. The model number listed on the back nameplate is the EP-8T with the T in the model number for the tremolo. The guitar is in very good shape although it's missing the original nameplate and the bridge has been changed out for a modern style. The Tremolo bar is also missing and the spring itself is missing. With the hole in the trussrod pocket it seems this guitar has spent part of it's life as a wall hanger. It has the usual fussy switches and pots that you'll find on a 40 year old guitar that hasn't been restored.

The Teisco brand name stands for 'Tokyo Electric Instrument and Sound Company'. Teisco was founded in 1946 by renowned Hawaiian and Spanish guitarist Atswo Kaneko, and electrical engineer Doryu Matsuda. Teisco guitars sold in the United States were badged "Teisco Del Rey" beginning in 1964. Teisco guitars were also imported in the U.S. under several brand names including Silvertone, Jedson, Kent, Kingston, Kimberly, Tulio, Heit Deluxe and World Teisco. While guitars manufactured by Teisco were ubiquitous in their day, they are now very collectable.

This guitar will be sold on ebay soon. Check my about me page for the ebay listing.

Hi!
I have a Teisco EP 8T, too. But in better condition. The pickups are rewinded, they sound loud as a Gibson Les Paul, but with the sound of a Teisco. No craks, I still have the original knobs (but i've change to keep in tune).
I'm from Portugal.

Thanks for the picture from Portugal, I like the color of your model better and it is in better condition.

I have an EP-8t as well. Missing some parts and the finish is trashed. It is currently completely disassembled and being sanded to be repainted and refinished. Planning on repainting it as bright red as I can find with bright yellow bindings and a big Scuderia Ferrari badge on the lower body. The control plate is missing as well as the pick guard so I will make new ones from pearloid stock, possibly in yellow. It will get all new electroncs and machine heads as well as a new roller tune-o-matic.

In Columbus, Oh.

Good luck with your project, it sounds like it's going to look beautiful once you get it painted.

Hi Guitar Hunter! I have a Teisco Del Rey in fantastic shape which I bought new and have rarely played. It is a model EP-8T with a serial number of 257901. I would like to know how I go about finding what the approximate date of manufacture of this guitar is and how I would go about finding its present worth. Thanks!

Hey, I have an EP-8T hollow-body, near perfect condition with a Checkmate 12 amp, also in near perfect condition. How much would these two sell for? I may be willing to sell.

I have an ep-8t as well. Only has one string, electronics seem to be in place, might need dusting. The levers and knobs are there, but the plastic face is busted. The tremolo arm is also missing. The paint and possibly body itself might be a little cracked. I want to restore it, but the project might be far above my price range.

I have an EP 8T also. Mine has a white pickguard, and the backing plate for the controls is white, instead of black.
I have the trem bar and spring installed. I took the original tuning machines off cause they suck, and wont stay in tune. But I have saved them.
It has a fairly intact finish, though one of my sons played with it, and it has some belt buckle scratches on the back. It is my "toy". I rarely play it cause the pick-ups (by design) are somewhat microphonic.
I would like to sell it, but I don't know what the thing is worth.

I had the ep8t. I got it in 68 or 69 and had it until about 1992 but it had been hanging on the wall since the mid seventies. The switches and pots were typical teisco junk and the guitar had the infamous banjo type of sound. Sold it to a guy who saw it in my house and had to have it. Wish I would have kept it.
